Global road safety trends in low- and middle-income countries and challenges to meet road safety targets

According to the WHO most recent report, global trends of road injuries show a decline of 5% compared to 2010. However, low and middle-income countries (LMICs) continue to report increases. African Region has seen a 17% rise in deaths since 2010. Making roads safer is now well established as a public health agenda, and the UN SDG 3.6 set an ambitious target of halving the number of global road traffic deaths and injuries by 2030. To achieve this, the regions with disproportionately higher levels of traffic-related injury risks need dedicated strategies to overcome the barriers presented by their respective social contexts. This talk will discuss the current trends of RTIs in different regions of the world and specific problems and challenges facing LMICs.
