Don't wait for accidents to happen

TSR journal launched

Dear colleagues and friends,

After many months of work, we are glad to announce that the interdisciplinary journal Traffic Safety Research has finally been launched.

ICTCT plays an important role as the journal co-founder and publisher. The key values of the ICTCT community (openness, constructive and supporting critique, interest in proactive methods  and multi-disciplinary views on the road traffic safety, etc.) are fully shared and promoted by the journal Editorial Team.

We are looking forward with excitement to the interesting publications and discussions on traffic safety at the TSR platform.

With warm regards,

Aliaksei Laureshyn (TSR Editor-in-Chief, member of ICTCT Steering Committee)
Stijn Daniels (TSR Editor, ICTCT president)
Carmelo D’Agostino (TSR Editor, ICTCT member)
Haneen Farah (TSR Editor)
Marjan Hagenzieker (TSR Editor)
Lai Zheng (TSR Editor)

What is TSR journal?

TSR is a scientific, openly peer-reviewed, platinum open-access journal.

It was co-founded in 2020 by ICTCT, Lund University (Sweden) and Delft University of Technology (the Netherlands).

The journal’s overaching objective is to contribute to the global shift to the Safe System paradigm within the road transportation domain. The journal promotes publication of innovative research within engineering, psychology, sociology, medicine and other related fields in attempt to explain and address the phenomenon of road casualties.

What topics are covered?

The journal topics cover (but not limited to):

  • system analysis and policy research related to road safety;
  • in-depth exploration and causal explanation of accident mechanisms;
  • behaviour and attitudes in traffic related to safety;
  • safety of specific groups in traffic, such as cyclists, pedestrians, children or elderly;
  • medical, economical, psychological and other consequences of accidents;
  • methodological development covering a wide palette of methods such as accident modelling, in-depth investigations, data linkage, self-reporting, surrogate measures of safety, behavioural observations and naturalistic studies, virtual reality, micro-simulations, etc.
  • innovative approaches and explorative studies that bring in new theoretical insights or explanatory mechanisms (even if based on smaller datasets);
  • development and evaluation of road traffic safety counter-measures;
  • state-of-the art knowledge summaries and literature reviews.

How can you contribute?

Starting up a new journal in a competitive world is not easy. However, we believe that TSR has a distinct profile and mission which makes it very different from many other journals ‘out there’. We do not aim at massive publications to earn money, but rather want to develop a platform with high-quality content, open procedures and supportive environment.

You can support TSR by:

  • Signing up for alerts and following TSR on social media to receive timely updates on the new publications.
  • Reading articles and referencing them in your works (of course, only when relevant).
  • Informing your colleagues and students about the journal.
  • Accepting review requests send by the editors.
  • Submitting your papers to the journal.
  • Considering organising special issues at TSR related to certain topics or events.

Stay tuned!
