Saving lives beyond 2025: lessons from Marrakech conference
The 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety took place in Marrakech, Morocco, on 18–20 February 2025. For the second time, the Swedish Transport Administration convened the Academic Expert Group (AEG2) to develop a new set of recommendations to further accelerate the progress. Building on the broad ideas introduced in the first AEG report, the new recommendations more explicitly point out specific sectors, actors, roles, and actions that can result in near-term change in road safety globally. These recommendations build on the outcomes of the conference in Stockholm (2020), and aim to make a tangible contribution to achieving the target of a 50 percent reduction in global road fatalities and injuries by 2023.
In this talk, Maria Krafft and Claes Tingvall, both the core members of the Academic Expert Group, share their insights from the Marrakech conference and discuss what the new expert recommendations mean for the broader traffic safety community.
