Helmets on heads: A call to action to address motorcycle safety in East Africa.
In this talk, Sam Clark will present on how the increasing number of road traffic fatalities and serious injuries linked to motorcycle use in sub-Saharan Africa has resulted in many INGOs advocating for the adoption of global helmet standards. This presentation examines the importance of context in defining what the appropriate solutions should be in terms of the introduction and implementation of new helmet standards to start saving lives on Kenya’s roads now
About the speaker

Sam Clark is a transport and development specialist with more than 25 years’ experience in programme management linked to transport and logistics and community development. As Head of Programmes for Transaid.
Sam has been implementing projects which aim to improve safety for commercial motorcyclists and their passengers in sub-Saharan Africa for a number of years, most recently, establishing a multi-sectoral coalition in Kenya which advocates for stronger enforcement of national helmet standards as a key solution to reducing the loss of life on Kenya’s roads.
