Joining online
ICTCT members can join the General Assembly meeting online using the link below. For practical reasons, we cannot guarantee optimal video and sound quality, but we will do our best.
ICTCT elections 2026
During the General Assembly, elections will be held. The elections concern the new ICTCT President, seven members of the Steering Committee, and two auditors for the period 2026–2029 (starting and ending at the corresponding General Assemblies).
The elections will be organized using an online voting platform SimplyVoting. This will ensure better transparency and provide an opportunity to cast votes even for the members who are not physically present during the General Assembly.
Call for action: stand as a candidate
Any ICTCT member, including individuals affiliated with institutional member organisations, is eligible to stand as a candidate for any of the available positions.

The deadline is 17 October 2026. Note that it will no longer be possible to candidate at the last minute during the General Assembly.

Process description
- A list of active ICTCT personal member and chosen representatives of active organization members (max three persons per organization) is compiled prior to the General Assembly by the ICTCT secretary.
- In the first round (Round 1), the votes are cast for the members of the Steering Committee (seven positions). In the second round (Round 2), the votes are cast for the ICTCT president (from the elected Steering Committee members who expressed their interest) and the auditors (two positions).
- The online voting for Round 1 opens with the start of the General Assembly and is held active for one hour (9:00–10:00). All eligible voters will receive an email with the link taking them to the voting page.
- The newly elected Steering Committee is announced at the General Assembly, and online voting for the Round 2 opens directly after (again for one hour, ca 10:30–11:30).
- The new ICTCT President and the auditors are announced, which concludes the elections.

Candidate: Steering Committee member
Niels Agerholm is Executive Manager at the Danish Road Directorate, where he leads strategic initiatives regarding law work, road sign damage, permission and road administration, draft project design, heavy road transport and contribution to governmental requests. Alongside his leadership role, he serves as a part-time lecturer at Aalborg University. He has former works 14 years as traffic safety researcher. His work bridges academic research and practical implementation, helping to translate innovative transport solutions into real-world benefits for road users.

Attila Borsos

Hungary
Candidate: Steering Committee member
Attila Borsos received his master’s degree in Economics from the University of Gyor, Hungary, and in Civil Engineering from Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands. He gained his PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Gyor, where he is full professor and head of department in the Department of Transport Infrastructure and Water Resources Engineering since 2012. His main research interest is road safety, more specifically accident prediction models, traffic safety trends, surrogate measures of safety, and the effect of Autonomous Vehicles on safe road design.
Planned contribution to the ICTCT if elected:

I have been a member of the steering committee since 2020. Since 2022, I have been organizing the yearly ICTCT Traffic Safety Researcher’s Course, and I plan to continue this work. I also see part of my role in the steering committee as representing a female and a psychologist’s perspective on our transdisciplinary goal of making traffic safer for the humans it should serve, as an opportunity for mobility.

DLR has been a ICTCT member for a few years and has been continuously contributing to the ICTCT conference with several scientific posters, and presentations since 2014. In 2021 and 2025 DLR hosted and organised the ICTCT conferences. On behalf of DLR, I want to support ICTCT to candidate as an auditor and with further scientific contributions in the future. ICTCT is one of DLR’s most important conferences as it deals as the location where the relevant expertise to change something in road safety comes together.
Clemens Kaufmann

Clemens Kaufmann is a sociologist and senior researcher at FACTUM, Vienna, where he has been working since 1999. He has extensive experience in the management and coordination of national and European research projects, with a focus on traffic safety, sustainable mobility and transport behaviour. His expertise includes qualitative and quantitative research methods, interviews, focus groups, behavioural observation and data analysis. His research covers areas such as pedestrian and cyclist safety, public transport, accessibility, mobility needs, automation and digitalisation.
I am involved in ICTCT since 1999, with different roles and currently serving as Cashier, which I would plan to continue. I would like to continue contributing my long-standing experience and knowledge of the ICTCT community to the organisation. Strengthening the network within the ICTCT community is particularly important to me, and I would like to further continue initiatives such as the Walk & Talk to create opportunities for members to get to know each other, exchange ideas and build new collaborations.
Aliaksei Laureshyn

Candidate: Steering Committee member
Aliaksei Laureshyn is an associate professor in traffic safety at Lund University, Sweden. His core expertise lies in the theory and practical application of proactive (non-accident-based) methods for traffic safety analysis. His other research interests include emerging technologies for traffic data collection, the safety of vulnerable road users, and policy and practice in traffic safety management, both in mature contexts and in low- and middle-income countries. Aliaksei is a passionate advocate and educator of the Safe System approach to traffic safety and has delivered lectures in a wide range of countries. Since 2021, he has served as editor-in-chief of the journal Traffic Safety Research (ISSN 2004-3082). In this role, he promotes research that is relevant to practice and scientific communication that is effective and accessible.
Having been in the ICTCT Steering Committee for few periods in a row, I dealt a lot with the practical tools and procedures (website, newsletters, social media, webinar support). Now with most of these functioning reasonably well, I intend to focus on more strategic issues such as promotion of the Safe System within the ICTCT agenda through better shaping of the conference calls and selection of keynote speakers, activation of currently ‘sleeping’ and initiation of new subcommittees, and support of new activities of value for the ICTCT members (e.g. introduction for new members, PhD student network, project match-making, etc.).
António Manuel Cabral Vieira Lobo

I am an Assistant Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Coimbra, where I teach road design, traffic engineering, and sustainable mobility to BSc, MSc, and PhD students. Road safety, human factors, driving automation, and urban mobility have been my main interests throughout 17 years of research. I have participated in 12 scientific projects, including two as coordinator and seven focused on road safety, as well as two Erasmus+ projects, including ASIASAFE. I have published more than 60 peer-reviewed articles and currently serve as Associate Editor of European Transport Research Review.
I have been a member of ICTCT since 2015, auditor since 2023, and host of the conference in 2018. If elected, I will renew my commitment to ICTCT, particularly by contributing to (i) the organization of ICTCT conferences, pre-conference courses, and webinars through my scientific and academic background and organizational skills, (ii) the recognition of ICTCT within the Ibero-American space through my connections with the PANAM STR, ANPET, and CRUSOE networks, and (iii) the consolidation of TSR as a leading journal in traffic safety through my experience as a reviewer and editor and my commitment to open science.
Giuseppina Pappalardo

Candidate: Steering Committee member
Giuseppina (Giusy) Pappalardo is a assistant professor at the Department of Civil-Industrial Engineering and Architecture (DICAr) of the University of Catania. Her research focuses on road safety engineering, with particular attention to vulnerable road users. She also works extensively on cycling and active mobility, driving and cycling simulation, and the road-safety implications of connected and automated vehicles in mixed-traffic conditions. She supervises PhD and thesis students and takes part in international research collaborations across Europe. She has been a member of ICTCT since 2023.
If elected to the Steering Committee, I would continue and strengthen the communication work I have carried out for ICTCT since 2023. My aim is to increase the association’s visibility and outreach: modernizing social-media presence, improving the dissemination of the annual workshop and its scientific outcomes, and making ICTCT more attractive and accessible to early-career researchers and PhD students. I would also help strengthen the connections between ICTCT and partner institutions and networks across Europe, fostering the open exchange of ideas that lies at the heart of the association.
Anton Pashkevich

Assistant Professor at the Department of Transport and Logistics Systems, PK Krakow University of Technology (since 2014) and CEO & Co-Founder of Aerodrom Tech Solutions. PhD in Transport Engineering (University of Bologna); doctoral candidate in Traffic Psychology at Palacký University Olomouc, where he was also a postdoctoral fellow; research engineer at TalTech (2013–2020). Works on road safety, human factors and ITS using eye-tracking, naturalistic driving studies and GIS; recognised expert in road markings (visibility, retroreflectivity, environmental impact). About 130 publications (h-index 22).
I would like to: (1) clarify and extend the benefits of ICTCT membership beyond the conference discount and newsletter; (2) keep ICTCT an inclusive community in which every member has a place, also when opinions differ; (3) offer more ways to be active (e.g. working groups, joint projects), not only the conference and webinars; (4) improve communication with clear, timely information and open dialogue with each member; (5) collect members’ initiatives and consider every idea; (6) make the work of the Steering Committee transparent and open; (7) continue to develop an experts’ database; (8) set clear long-term plans.
